Repeating random percentage questions may keep you busy, but it will not necessarily make you faster at calculating a dose, a fluid rate or the volume required from a stock solution.

Numeracy questions assess whether you can apply safe calculation methods in realistic clinical situations. The arithmetic is often manageable. The challenge is reading the question precisely, selecting the correct information and making sure your final answer uses the requested unit.

A strong practice routine should cover the core calculation types likely to arise in nursing settings. These include tablets and capsules, liquid medicines, injections, intravenous infusions, weight-based doses, percentage strengths and unit conversions. You may also need to work confidently with time, rates and volumes.

The key point is that each question has a clinical context. A misplaced decimal point or an overlooked unit is not just a maths error. In a real setting, it could affect patient safety. Treat every practice question as a safe-medicines exercise rather than a standalone sum.

Test arrangements and assessment specifications can change, so always check the current information provided by the NMC and your test provider. Build the method before you chase speed

Learn conversions until they are automatic
